Itā€™s Taco Tuesday! Letā€™s jump in:

  • šŸŖ„ The junk magician

  • šŸ˜‚ Meme of the day

I think we can all agree the worst part about paying in cash is having to deal with the change you get backā€¦

What if I said there was an app that used your spare change to make you more money? Well, I recently came across this app called ā€œAcornsā€ - they take your spare change and invest it for you (Think spending $5.50 on coffee but itā€™ll automatically round it up to $6 and invest the 50Ā¢ for you)

  • Everything is automatic you donā€™t have to do anything

  • They have experts that invest your spare change for you

  • You can track everything on their app

It might not sound like a lot but - let's say you get $50 worth of change invested every month, youā€™d have close to $40,000 in 20 years (10% return)... not bad for doing nothing šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

AND if you sign up using this special link youā€™ll get $20 as a bonus (for free!)

THE JUNK MAGICIAN

This past weekend was filled with hot weather! Iā€™m talking 70 degrees, which is insane for this time of year in Illinois. Itā€™s on pace to be the hottest Feb ever recorded!

So naturally, I went for a walk in my neighborhood - guess what I saw. People were doing their spring cleaning early.

Usually, weā€™ll do this in April, like most, but I think that might be different this year. People were out and about - theyā€™re ready for summer!

But thereā€™s one big issue with spring cleaning.

Where I live, you can't just put all your garbage on the front lawn.

Why? Because the garbage people won't take it. And after looking into it, I found they also do this in other towns as well.

They have a designated day, once a year, for your ā€œbigā€ trash items (like mattresses, sofas, desks). On any other day, they won't take it and that sofa will just sit on your lawn looking like you sleep outside.

Last year when I did my spring cleaning it wasnā€™t on one of these ā€œbigā€ trash days so I had to look for some help. I looked at a few companies online to dispose of all our junk and my goodness, they charged a ton!

Even when I called they told me they were booked up, which means demand was high.

That was when the lightbulb went off in my head šŸ’”... this could be a great side hustle!

Hereā€™s the thing: People always have junk but most of the time they have nowhere to throw it - just like in my situation.

Thatā€™s where you come in. Iā€™ll call you the ā€œtrash magicianā€ because when you come boom, abracadabraā€¦ the trash is gone! šŸŖ„

In actuality, since you donā€™t have magic powers (I donā€™t think) you'd dispose of the junk at a nearby junkyard (where you can make more money scrapping what you pick up).

74% of Americans do spring cleaning every year. Thatā€™s ~91 million households. And Iā€™m willing to bet a lot will pay you a pretty penny to do their dirty work (with gloves of course)!

How much can you make?

Most likely, between $100-$600 for each job you do.

Charge based on the type of junk your client needs removed. The heavier the item, the more stress itā€™ll cause you to remove it, and the more you get paid.

Thereā€™s no getting around it - this is a labor intensive job but that doesnā€™t mean you have to be the one doing it. If you get things off the ground, you can hire high school kids or people on TaskRabbit or Thumbtack who will work for $15-20/hr.

Thereā€™s two easy ways to get customers:

1. Neighborhood Group Chats

Nextdoor is probably the most underrated neighborhood social media app. Let people in your community know if theyā€™re thinking about doing some spring cleaning to give you a call to help them haul their junk away.

The other ones (Facebook & Craigslist) also work but Iā€™ve found thereā€™s nothing moms love more than hopping on Nextdoor and getting the inside scoop on the community (even my mom does it).

2. Real Estate Agents

Guess who real estate agents know? Real estate investors.

And guess what real estate investors do a lot. Renovate homes.

As you can imagine, renoā€™s involve a heavy amount of demo and junk. These are the people youā€™re looking for.

Become the guy or gal they call when a new renovation starts up and youā€™ll always have jobs coming your way.

Supplies needed to get started

A truck or a vehicle with a lot of trunk space is ideal. Or if you want to get smart with it book all your appointments on the same day and rent a Uhaul.

Other items youā€™ll probably want:

  • Gloves - to avoid any splinters and grime!

  • Safety glasses

  • And maybe a hammer and drill to break things down

This is a lucrative business that I know you can make a lot of money from.

To finish my story from beforeā€¦ I ended up hiring a random guy running his own operation and when he came to pick up my junk, I asked him how much he makes doing this. Wanna take a guess?

$10,000 a month. If your jaw just dropped, so did mine when he told me.

So get after it and let me know if you have any questions. Happy hustling! šŸ‘Š
